Radomianie History
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 1988 the Polish American community located in Detroit's western suburbs saw a need for an adult dance group whose main goal would be to promote and preserve Polish folk culture through music, song and dance and also to instill ethnic pride in its young adults.  In the fall of that year, Radomianie, a performing Polish folk dance ensemble, was created and dedicated to these goals.
Radomianie is named after the Polish City of Radom. Literally, Radomianie means people from Radom. Suzan Marzec, Radomianie's choreographer and artistic director, has received her diploma in Polish folklore at the University of Marie Sklodowska Curie in Lublin, Poland. Under her direction, Radomianie strives for authenticity in music, dance and costuming while at the same time providing interesting and lively entertainment.
In July 1993, Radomianie participated in the IX World Festival of Polish Folklore Ensembles held in Rzeszow, Poland. While in Poland, Radomianie also performed in its city Radom. Radom was a most gracious host. This visit was just as emotional and exciting for the residents of Radom as it was for Radomianie. Radom is so very proud to have a group in the States named after them. The group returned several times thereafter and participated in the festivities. This past July 2008 marked the 15th anniversary of Radomianie's first participation. We had a memorable experience enjoying the festival and touring Poland.
Over the past 20 years, Radomianie has performed at numerous events and for a variety of audiences. These performances have ranged from featured spots to short recitals. Radomianie has delighted audiences of all ages from elementary school children celebrating Polish Heritage Month to a Christmas party for residents of seniors apartment complexes. The members have been invited to entertain at events varying from prestigious, black tie affairs to picnics and on stagesâin auditoriums, banquet rooms, church halls and city streets. Members were also chosen to perform in a dance scene with actors Gabriel Byrne and Lena Olin in The Polish Wedding, choreographed by Suzan Marzec.
